My argument appears as: Why enroll in a system labelled as matrimony controlled by paperwork within the government?

Ultimately, I think marriage can be individually defined. For example, your long relationship already could have a label as marriage.

Why create abstract layers on top of a relationship that has worked for an extended period of time?
